Europe is taking another step towards a more circular and resource-efficient economy with the adoption of the European Economic and Social Committee’s (EESC) opinion on the future Circular Economy Act. The opinion calls for stronger measures to reduce dependence on virgin resources, promote circular production and consumption, and create favourable conditions for sustainable industrial innovation.

The document also highlights the importance of engaging stakeholders in shaping circular economy policies, recognising the valuable input provided through the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform (ECESP). Bringing together expertise from research, industry, public authorities and civil society helps ensure that future legislation is both ambitious and practical.

The direction outlined by the EESC closely reflects the ambitions of the PROMOFER project. By developing innovative fermentation technologies that convert agricultural residues and food processing by-products into valuable bio-based materials, PROMOFER contributes to reducing waste, improving resource efficiency and supporting the development of sustainable industrial value chains.

As discussions on the Circular Economy Act continue, research and innovation projects such as PROMOFER demonstrate how circular solutions can be translated into real industrial applications. Their results will help advance Europe’s transition towards a competitive, low-carbon and circular bioeconomy.
