The 7th International Summer School on Circular Bioeconomy & Sustainable Development (ISSCBSD) was once again successfully hosted, continuing its tradition of excellence in promoting cutting-edge knowledge and dialogue in the bioeconomy field. This year’s Summer School was organized by Dr. Konstantinos Vorgias, Professor of Biochemistry at the Department of Biology, School of Science, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
The event took place at the campus of the American Farm School, Perrotis College in Thessaloniki, Greece, from June 27th to July 4th, 2025. The School was held with the support and collaboration of leading institutions and key stakeholders from the Bioeconomy sector, reinforcing its role as a significant platform for scientific exchange and policy discussion.
This year’s edition drew the participation of more than 100 attendees, including university students, early-career researchers, and professionals actively engaged in the bioeconomy domain across various European countries. A special highlight of the program was the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the European Union’s first action plan on Bioeconomy—an important milestone that underscored the evolving landscape and growing importance of sustainable biobased innovation.
Throughout the week, distinguished speakers and field experts delivered a wide array of lectures and presentations, illustrating the broad spectrum of real-world applications, technological advancements, and emerging opportunities within the circular bioeconomy. The interactive nature of the School facilitated robust discussions and fostered valuable networking among participants.
On the final day, HELLABIOM was represented by its Secretary General, Mr. Nikolaos Damatis, who delivered an overview presentation on the progress of the PROMOFER project, marking the successful completion of its first year.
