Rafael Jiménez, researcher in Biotechnology at AIMPLAS (PROMOFER Coordinator), presented the project at the 33rd European Biomass Conference & Exhibition (EUBCE 2025), held from June 9 to 12 in Valencia, Spain.

The event brought together over 1,500 experts from academia, industry, and policymaking across more than 80 countries to discuss the latest innovations in biomass, bioenergy, and circular bioeconomy. During his presentation, Rafael provided an overview of the project and highlighted AIMPLAS’s contributions and progress within PROMOFER.

AIMPLAS serves as both the technical and management coordinator of PROMOFER, leading key work packages such as WP1 and WP4. These include the isolation and characterization of microorganisms, optimization of hydrolyzate culture conditions to enhance 2,3-BDO production, and the improvement of PHBV extraction and purification processes. Rafael also addressed the project’s focus on end-of-life validation and the integration of Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) principles, underscoring AIMPLAS’s commitment to advancing sustainable biotechnological solutions.
