As we move forward with the implementation of the Bioeconomy Strategy, it’s clear that the biobased sector holds tremendous potential – not just in terms of the economic value already being realized, but also in the opportunities that lie ahead.
A new publication highlights the impactful legacy of the Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU), the predecessor to the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU).
With €822 million in EU funding and an additional €2.6 billion in mobilized investments, BBI JU has been a catalyst for growth, supporting 138 projects and over 1,100 organizations across Europe.
Some key achievements include:
- 106 new bio-based products developed
- 92 industrial processes optimized
- 156 value chains established
- Strong SME engagement and notable progress in renewable materials
These milestones not only showcase the hard work of our community but also provide the inspiration and momentum needed to continue driving Europe’s biobased transition.
