PROMOFER was prominently featured at the 3rd Forum on “Energy Exploitation of Waste – Biomass – Biomethane 2025”, held on Friday, May 30th, in Athens.

The Forum was organized by the A-Energy Investment Initiative and the SDIT Forum Initiative, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment & Energy, the Regulatory Authority for Waste, Energy and Water, and the RES & Guarantees of Origin Managing Authority.

With strong support from leading scientific bodies—including the Hellenic Biomass Association (HELLABIOM), the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and Saving (CRES/KAPE), and the Hellenic Solid Waste Management Association (EEDSA)—the Forum featured 33 high-profile speakers from public authorities, academia, research, and the private sector. Discussions were structured across four thematic panels:

  1. Energy Utilization of Waste: From Study to Implementation
  2. The Creation of a New Energy Market from Waste
  3. Secondary Fuels – Production and Market Absorption
  4. Energy Utilization of Biomass – Biogas – Biomethane

Representing PROMOFER, Mr. Nikolaos Damatis, Dipl. Production & Management Engineer and Secretary General of the Board of Directors of HELLABIOM, delivered a presentation titled “Municipal Biomass: Valorization for Bioenergy, Bioproducts and Biochar – Prospects & Good Practices.”

His talk emphasized PROMOFER’s contribution to the sustainable valorization of municipal and agricultural biomass, with a spotlight on bioplastics production from agricultural residues—a key innovation demonstrated within the project. He also introduced the concept of “Biomass Green Points” or “Bio-Hubs”, a forward-looking model for integrated local biomass collection, processing, and utilization, to be further developed under PROMOFER.

PROMOFER’s presence at the Forum underscored the project’s strong alignment with Greece’s national strategies for circular economy, renewable energy, and climate action, while showcasing its commitment to advancing innovative, bio-based solutions in waste and biomass management.
